D.C. Transforms Today

Before you catch a glimpse of your favorite Autobots and Shia LaBeouf, watch out for an explosive transformation in D.C. as they start filming the upcoming “Transformers 3″ today.
First off, don’t freak out — officials say filming near the Capitol will include pyrotechnics.
Starting Monday, Oct. 11, roads surrounding the U.S. Air Force Memorial in Arlington will be closed from 5 to 9 p.m. Lanes of Columbia Pike will be shut down periodically. Police say pedestrians should avoid the area. Additionally, several streets just east of the Capitol will be closed off. The restrictions will also include part of the National Mall from the area near the National Museum of the American Indian up to the East Gallery. It will also include a large section just west of the Ellipse.
Then on Tuesday, Oct. 12, parking restrictions will be in place for parts of the Mall near the Smithsonian. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, streets will be closed near the U.S. Capitol, including 3rd and 4th streets between Constitution and Independence avenues.
Closures and restrictions on Wednesday and Thursday will include the middle of the Mall and several blocks near the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial.
Fortunately, the District Department of Transportation has set up a complete list with specific dates and times. DDOT officials have also set up a special hotline that you can call for the latest information at (202) 540-8039.
