One thing to consider when accessing your contacts is that the blog world operates much differently than you're probably used to. Blogs (often even influential ones) rise up to prominence and then quickly close down seemingly without reason. When you're sending out your stuff to a contact list, you could be emailing someone who no longer even maintains their blog, wasting your time and theirs. Another common and unfortunate problem is that blogs often change their email address (or preferred way of receiving submissions) without telling anyone.
